A Valentine’s Day Question for You

So I have to ask... When's the last time you and your sweetheart had professional photos taken together?  If the answer is your wedding day I'm going to reach through the computer and pop you in the forehead.     I get it though, so I'll try to be nice here. But it's true - everyone needs to get photos taken together. REGULARLY people, regularly! You need to remind your significant other that they matter to you! We get professional photos of things that matter to us. Weddings, babies, special events and milestones. You should look at these photos as a way to commemorate another year of your love!        A lot happens between the cute engagement photos of your passionate youth and the deep love that only years together can bring. And a lot of what is happening isn't something you think to record often. But if a picture says a thousand words, then that's why I work so hard to show as much emotion and

Newborns at Home | Baby Jade

Here's sweet baby Jade! One week after her amazingly fast birth. She was just so petite and pretty in pink for her newborn photos with me. A thousand congrats again to the Ingles Family. Your newest addition is just precious!     Like these photos? Birth Photography | Welcoming Baby Jade

I can't really think of any better way to celebrate the fresh start of a New Year than to witness the birth of a baby. And Jade's story was even more exciting than usual because when she decided she was ready, she was ready NOW! Her Momma and I were going back and forth over text the whole afternoon. Angela didn't want me to rush over to the hospital and end up waiting for hours and hours. But I just had a weird feeling that I needed to get over there. Birth photographer's intuition? I should probably add that to my credentials! ;-) So Miss Jade was born less than an hour after I got there... at first all was quiet, Mom was trying to rest and breathe, and then she got in the tub for a change of scenery and surprised everyone with some really strong contractions and pushing! So cue midwife because it was showtime! Grandma was calling for Dad to hurry up and get here but unfortunately Baby waits for no man. She was so beautiful and sweet and the tiniest little thing I've

Headshot Photography | Corning Area Chamber of Commerce

This post is an example of how I see a story in everything. Every job I do gives me the opportunity to meet new people... I get to give them something (great photos) and I almost always get to learn and grow from my interactions with them. When I moved back to Corning a year and a half ago, it wasn't under the best of circumstances. To say that starting over as a single mom and relaunching my business after four years in Germany was daunting would be an understatement. Sure, I was back in my hometown and surrounded by family and friends who were supporting me, but I was scared out of my mind. I remember poking around the internet and looking at the Corning area... thinking about who was taking what kind of photography, brainstorming my dream business, thinking about the best niche for me... and I remember thinking about joining the Chamber of Commerce. But I didn't because I didn't think I was good enough. Fast forward a year, and I'm gaining a healthier mindset

Family Photos | Dunbar Family + Baby Troy

The Dunbar Family and I had a really neat moment of star-alignment a couple weeks ago. Not only was the schedule free and the weather nice for a last-minute photo shoot, but it was the last weekend there were still leaves in Canfield Park! I'm always sad when the City does the Great Leaf Clean Up every fall ;-) But we got to sneak in our photos really quick that Sunday and it was extra special because it was Baby Troy's first family photo session with the crew!  And he was pretty much a pro,

Newborns at Home | Baby Ava

A week after Ava's amazing birth, I got to come back to her home and hang out with her family. It's my favorite type of photo shoot for babies.     Big Brother showed me all his favorite toys and he was such a good sport! Family photos can be super tough for a two-year-old, right? ;-)     I especially loved some of the photos we took in the bedroom where Ava was born.      When I do photos at home, I always love the flexibility we have to just sit and chat while the baby eats, or has a diaper change, or whatever the family needs. Kids can have snacks and adults can have coffee-breaks. I think it makes a big difference in the photos.  But more importantly than all that, I just think it's really important that Mom and Dad and siblings don't walk away feeling like it was a huge stressful ordeal. We want the photos but we don't want the stress, thanks!     It was a

Being present for Baby Ava's birth was a special treat because I had the opportunity to celebrate with her Momma Amanda, who was empowered to choose a home birth for her second baby. Her induced labor and delivery of her son was apparently a very long and grueling experience that she would rather not repeat. I discussed in this post how there are always two stories unfolding in the birth of a baby. One is the child's and one is the mother's. The power of a woman’s body in carrying and delivering another human into this world is a beautiful intersection of pain and triumph… the end and the beginning And how that story plays out can have a huge impact on the way a mother thinks of herself. It can be a very empowering and beautiful experience! (Jessica Aiduk)   Amanda and Art waited patiently as Baby Ava decided that she would extend her stay at Hotel Uterus past her due date. Then they wanted patiently through labor at home. There was soft music playing

Ode to the Market Street Apartment

When my brother was making plans to move out of his apartment, he asked me if I'd help him document it for him with a photo shoot. It's not his first bachelor pad, but it's definitely everyone's favorite. I mean, it's Market Street. You can't get much cooler than that.     One of my favorite things about this apartment (besides the cowboy chic wallpaper) is the dramatic lighting contrasts from those big beautiful windows. So it was a real treat to play around with my camera on a bright sunny Saturday morning.     Plus he made me eggs AND had bought some oatmeal raisin cookies from Soul Full Cup to go with our coffee. He's a gem.      One of my favorite things about my brother is his hospitality.     That and his passion for minimalist living and vintage Corelle coffee cups and saucers.     Also, who owns (and regularly

Birth Photography | Welcoming Baby Abigail

For anyone who has wondered why someone might choose to deliver their baby at home, I hope that the following story gives you a glimpse into what a home birth can look like. Every baby's birth is unique, just like every baby is unique.  So this is just one of the many beautiful examples of a family welcoming their newest little one. It's always an honor to be a part of the team, no matter where the event takes place!     Lindsay went into labor in the wee hours of the morning. An excited group gathered around her... her husband Russ, her midwifery team of Deb and Deb ;-) and her mom and two sisters. Everyone patiently waited in the calm quiet of their living room as she worked through her contractions.      When the wee small hours of the morning turned into just the normal early morning, Lindsay's three kiddos (and eventually her nephew) woke up to hang out with the crew! I think that's one of the most beautiful

Dear Mom Who Just Had a Baby…

Hey girl! So you just had a baby! CONGRATS! You're amazing! You gave birth! You deserve a thousand gold stars! You deserve a medal, a high-five, a cookie!     You know what you also deserve? Not to have to get out of your comfiest yoga pants for at least two weeks, that's what.  You also deserve not to clean up, cook, or worry about anything during this time. You have every excuse under the sun, but your fresh sweet little one is certainly the only excuse you need ;-) You deserve to enjoy that tiny human in all their tininess... cause we all know how quickly they turn into a toddler. Then a preschooler. Then a college graduate. (Or so I've heard.)     And you know what else you deserve?  You deserve to remember this time. I get it... your brain is scrambled eggs right now. You are dealing with more hormones than a sorority house and the last thing you have time to do is think about anything... least of all
