Event Photography | Dance Recital Silhouettes

There was this really neat moment during the dance recitals that the tech crew waited just a few seconds to turn up the main stage lights. Which resulted (as they were obviously well aware) in the most delightfully dramatic silhouettes of the dancers!  I felt like I was daydreaming about how cool these photos were for weeks afterwards! I just had to do a separate post of my favorites...     Like these photos? Please order a digital or print copy here - 2018 Dance

Event Photography | Caroline’s First Holy Communion

When Caroline's Mom started talking to me about wanting me to photograph her daughter's first communion, I was so excited! These are the kind of special moments I love documenting for families.  I also get excited when I know I can solve a problem for Mom - every parent knows that feeling of being torn between wanting to play the role of family-documenter and wanting to sit and really savor the moment you're experiencing. By hiring me to photograph Caroline, her Mom and Dad were able to sit with their congregation and truly enjoy the event with their family and church family. And it was a joy to experience it with them!  There were so many sweet moments and I could just feel Caroline's excitement and pride in this momentous occasion. Plus, what little lady doesn't love to get dolled up and celebrate with a fancy dress? ;-) Congrats Caroline! And thank you to the Welch family for including me in this celebration. It was

Travel Adventures | Amish Country

When we were in Lancaster, PA on Spring Break I had SO MUCH FUN photographing Amish Country.  As a woman who lives for photography and connects with clients through social media, a culture that prefers not to have any photographic images in their home and rarely even owns a phone is quite fascinating to me. Sometimes when I hear about the Amish I imagine what it would be like to live without my iPhone in my hand at least once every ten minutes of my waking hours. But I couldn't do it. For so many reasons, but specifically because of the fact that horses scare me ;-) My little ladies and I really enjoyed learning more about Amish culture and the rich heritage preserved in that area.  Lancaster County is home to one of the largest communities of Amish in America! I hope you enjoy these photos... they make me smile. There's a sense of peace in the pastoral and simple way of Amish

New Adventures at 171 | Photowalk Series with Jess!

This Spring and Summer, I will be adding a new type of class to my offerings at 171 Cedar Arts Center. We're taking our education out of the classroom and into the real world for some themed photowalks!  The first one is next Saturday, May 19th at Bluebird Trail Farm. (Check out the website here! They have so many cool things going on you can get involved in.)     As soon as my students started requesting a workshop on animal photography, I thought of Margie Seiderman and the passion she has for educational partnerships up at that wonderful farm of hers. Plus I know she has a never ending supply of fuzzy bunnies so...      Besides baby bunnies and chicks, we will have a fun assortment of other animals to play with, feed, and photograph. We will be given a farm tour and we will be walking around the nature trail (about a mile) so there will be an opportunity for photographing both domesticated and wild
