This Spring and Summer, I will be adding a new type of class to my offerings at 171 Cedar Arts Center.

We’re taking our education out of the classroom and into the real world for some themed photowalks!

The first one is next Saturday, May 19th at Bluebird Trail Farm. (Check out the website here! They have so many cool things going on you can get involved in.)

As soon as my students started requesting a workshop on animal photography, I thought of Margie Seiderman and the passion she has for educational partnerships up at that wonderful farm of hers.

Plus I know she has a never ending supply of fuzzy bunnies so…

Besides baby bunnies and chicks, we will have a fun assortment of other animals to play with, feed, and photograph.

We will be given a farm tour and we will be walking around the nature trail (about a mile) so there will be an opportunity for photographing both domesticated and wild animals!

Doesn’t it sound like in-you-face-FUN? 😉

I am especially excited to have unstructured time to explore a wide range of lighting conditions together.

How high do you have to push your ISO to capture the motion of a baby goat in a barn? Can you get the right focus point on a chick’s eye/beak with a wide open aperture?

Tons of fun experiments to do. All sorts of time for Q&A and one-on-one instruction.

[Side note – if you haven’t had a chance to take my DSLR Manual Mode class or if you don’t have a “fancy” camera, don’t hesitate to join me on these photowalks anyways! You will certainly pick up a lot of great composition tips, even if some of the concepts we discuss won’t be applicable to your photo-taking-device.]

Though we’re hoping it’ll be much more green than when I was there in early March, keep in mind that the farm is a pretty muddy place even when it’s NOT raining.

And because we have the option to shoot in the barns, this is a rain-or-shine event!

So please bring the necessary rain protection for yourself, your feet, and your camera. I recommend a simple rain sleeve you can find on amazon. {See my affiliate link here}

You can find the entire list of classes, workshops, and photowalks that I’m offering in the next two months at 171’s website.

And don’t hesitate to contact me with questions!

I hope to see you there!
