Event Photography | Caroline’s First Holy Communion

When Caroline's Mom started talking to me about wanting me to photograph her daughter's first communion, I was so excited! These are the kind of special moments I love documenting for families.  I also get excited when I know I can solve a problem for Mom - every parent knows that feeling of being torn between wanting to play the role of family-documenter and wanting to sit and really savor the moment you're experiencing. By hiring me to photograph Caroline, her Mom and Dad were able to sit with their congregation and truly enjoy the event with their family and church family. And it was a joy to experience it with them!  There were so many sweet moments and I could just feel Caroline's excitement and pride in this momentous occasion. Plus, what little lady doesn't love to get dolled up and celebrate with a fancy dress? ;-) Congrats Caroline! And thank you to the Welch family for including me in this celebration. It was

Wedding Photographer… To Be or Not To Be?

Ever since I became a professional photographer I have avoided weddings. Just plain avoided them. A few would-be wedding clients have inquired and I've just always simply said "nope! I don't do weddings."     I rationalized this aversion for all sorts of "good" reasons. I didn't like the idea of working with fussy brides or their picky moms. I didn't like the idea of being on my feet for 10 hours. But most of all, I HATED the idea of endless hours post-processing 3,000 pictures that (in my mind) would all look about the same. I mean, that white dress is gorgeous but if I have to see it in one more picture I'm going to gouge my eyes out. Honestly this might seem harsh but I don't even usually like looking THROUGH an entire image set of wedding photos. I can't imagine having to be the one to sort out and edit them all!     {side note - editing is one of my least favorite parts of my job. I hate being in front of the computer for

Event Photography | Vince & Eleanor’s 65th Anniversary

If these photos don't melt your heart then it's made of stone. This is the kind of event where my face gets sore from smiling so much!     I met this wonderful couple very briefly as their children situated them for their party to begin. So I didn't really know much about them. But what I learned about them through the course of the morning's event photography brought tears to my eyes.      First of all, you can tell a lot about a couple by the smiles of their friends and family.     I mean, it's downright contagious!  I feel like I'm missing out on a really good joke or something... but I think the punchline is something like "Vince and Eleanor, we're just so excited to be here celebrating this big day with you!"     The toasts were a fabulous mix of stories and praise of this wonderful couple. Tales of a fiery redhead getting herself set up on an awkward first

International Vintage Soaring Meet 2016

YOU GUYS. In case you haven't seen my Instagram-bragging, I had the really cool opportunity to photograph the opening weekend of the International Vintage Soaring Meet at Harris Hill for the Star Gazette! (Thanks Star Gazette!)      You can see my whole gallery for the newspaper here, but you can also go right on over there and see the fun for yourself!     The National Soaring Museum is just a stone's throw from Corning... like... I could see Little Joe from my excited perch in the front seat of the glider! And besides the fact that Harris Hill has tons of awesome family activities all the time, I forget that you can just waltz on over to the NSM's runway and watch the tow-planes and gliders take off!      So if you want to see the gliders taking off, park right in front of the museum and just watch from the fence. (Walk around a little... you can see a lot of the gliders up close, and

Corning Area Community Concert Band

We had the pleasure of attending another performance of the Corning Area Community Concert Band on Thursday at Centerway Square.     These talented folks get together once a week to practice and then they perform in our community just for the love of music!     The band celebrated it's 40th Anniversary last year and there are quite a few members who have been involved from the beginning. You still have a few more chances to catch them this season but I'm most excited about their July 4th performance before the fireworks!  Come check them out and support instrumental music in our
