Families at Home | Little Miss Rachelle and the Wagoners

This family has grown nearer and dearer to my heart through tragedy. Tragedy has a bittersweet way of doing that, I think.  Because it is always precious and special to come into someone's home and photograph their newest blessing. But with the Wagoners, it also carried a note of that sacred celebration of life and acknowledgement loss; of sadness mixed with joy.     Because as this family basks in the sweetness of their new fourth baby, they also carry the pain of the death of their third baby.  When I photographed Judah just the day after his birth, I had no idea how meaningful those images would become when he suddenly passed away four months later. And I have been humbled and honored to know Lindsey and see her walk through the grieving process with utter transparency.  We corresponded frequently over the next year and were both struck by how close our experiences of grief were. Though we had lost very different things, we could each

Cake Smash Shoot | Miss Harper

I had another opportunity to spend some time with the amazing Christofaro family. This time we set up in the comfort of their home to celebrate Little Miss Harper's first birthday!     First of all, I really loved Melissa's choice of The Very Hungry Caterpillar as a theme. Besides the fact that I loved reading that book to my own little ladies, Eric Carle just slam-dunks the bright-colored cuteness!     And just look at the lace details of this dress she found! I die!     As I was setting up my background and we finished blowing up the balloons, Harper needed a quick nourishing nibble before indulging her sweet tooth and I took the opportunity to capture the sweetness of those moments, too.     So first the balloons...     And then, CAKE.     And oh my, did she dig in!     It was funny, the more

In Home Family Session | Cozy Details

I am finishing up editing one of my favorite sessions to date. It was a recent in-home, multi-generational shoot that was full of just the sweetest moments.  Grandma and Great-Grandpa were there to snuggle and play and share sweet baby kisses. We hung out in the toy room where the girls spend their days playing with their Grandma while Mom and Dad are at work. They snuggled on the couch together and showed me their favorite dolls and awesome microscope!     Big Sis got into her dance outfit for me and showed me her music box. They read stories together and jumped on Mom and Dad's bed. There were tickle-fights and giggles galore.     Photoshoots like this are hands-down my favorite because I can just see how much more relaxing it is for families. Especially those with real little ones. Everyone is more comfortable in their natural habitat, adults AND kiddos! We were able to take breaks for goldfish snacks and breastfeeding and

Newborns at Home | Baby Ellie

I had the privilege of meeting little miss Ellie in the coziness of her home a few days after she was born. She had plenty of happy smiles and sweet snuggles to share. It was a blast watching her two big brothers show off how proud and excited they are. The whole family is certainly blessed to be adding some more pink to their world. Congrats to the Hyrnkiws... Baby Ellie is just lovely!      Like this post? Newborns at Home | Baby Ava

A week after Ava's amazing birth, I got to come back to her home and hang out with her family. It's my favorite type of photo shoot for babies.     Big Brother showed me all his favorite toys and he was such a good sport! Family photos can be super tough for a two-year-old, right? ;-)     I especially loved some of the photos we took in the bedroom where Ava was born.      When I do photos at home, I always love the flexibility we have to just sit and chat while the baby eats, or has a diaper change, or whatever the family needs. Kids can have snacks and adults can have coffee-breaks. I think it makes a big difference in the photos.  But more importantly than all that, I just think it's really important that Mom and Dad and siblings don't walk away feeling like it was a huge stressful ordeal. We want the photos but we don't want the stress, thanks!     It was a

Ode to the Market Street Apartment

When my brother was making plans to move out of his apartment, he asked me if I'd help him document it for him with a photo shoot. It's not his first bachelor pad, but it's definitely everyone's favorite. I mean, it's Market Street. You can't get much cooler than that.     One of my favorite things about this apartment (besides the cowboy chic wallpaper) is the dramatic lighting contrasts from those big beautiful windows. So it was a real treat to play around with my camera on a bright sunny Saturday morning.     Plus he made me eggs AND had bought some oatmeal raisin cookies from Soul Full Cup to go with our coffee. He's a gem.      One of my favorite things about my brother is his hospitality.     That and his passion for minimalist living and vintage Corelle coffee cups and saucers.     Also, who owns (and regularly
