Event Photography | 171 Cedar Arts Center Summer Mosaic

This year was my first time attending (and photographing!) the wonderful Summer Mosaic fundraiser at 171 Cedar Arts Center. If you haven't been, you NEED to mark this on your calendar for next year!      It's bound to be a feast for the eyes when you're bringing together 31 local artists and their small artworks. Not to mention the fact that the team at 171 throws a killer party!     Opening night featured lovely piano music by Dino Losito and a smorgasbord of food and drink to enjoy while guest browsed and purchased selections of this amazing art right off the walls!     The second night kept the party going with music by Arthur B and The Planetary Mix. They kept everyone grooving as more art flew off the walls!     Big thanks to the staff at 171 for their hard work and dedication to the arts in our community! Another lovely experience, as always! And congrats to all the

Event Photography | “Meet the Newlyweds” Brunch

There are a lot of things I love about my work... but one of them is getting to be present for repeated celebrations in the lives of my clients. When I found out from Mary Catherine that her parents were hosting a brunch for her daughter and new son-in-law, I was so excited to join the fun again!  Carolyn and Charlie got married at a small ceremony in April. So this party was a wonderful gathering of the Corning-area sides of her family to celebrate that with her. And the love this family has for each other is so heartwarmingly evident. It's always a joy to join them for a special occasion.  Congratulations to the two of you! Many happy wishes for this next stage of your adventure in this amazing life!     Like these photos? Contact me today to photograph your next special

Event Photography | 171 Cedar Arts Center Dining in Flight Fundraiser

If you didn't already know, 171 Cedar Arts Center is celebrating their 50th Anniversary this year! That's 50 years this community has enjoyed the benefits of a dynamic performing and visual arts program!  Have you checked out their offerings lately? The variety of classes you can take astounds me! And that's just classes... not to mention all the awesome art exhibits in the gallery, special events, shows, and camps! As one who teaches, takes classes, has my children take classes, and gets to watch many aspects of life at 171 through my lens, I have to say a huge Happy Anniversary to the Arts Center and a giant THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all you do.  Cheers to you guys! You deserve to celebrate!     And speaking of the things they do, the amazing team at 171 put together a stellar summer party earlier this month that was equal parts fundraiser and celebration. It was a beautiful evening that guests spent outdoors dining under tents,

Event Photography | Caroline’s First Holy Communion

When Caroline's Mom started talking to me about wanting me to photograph her daughter's first communion, I was so excited! These are the kind of special moments I love documenting for families.  I also get excited when I know I can solve a problem for Mom - every parent knows that feeling of being torn between wanting to play the role of family-documenter and wanting to sit and really savor the moment you're experiencing. By hiring me to photograph Caroline, her Mom and Dad were able to sit with their congregation and truly enjoy the event with their family and church family. And it was a joy to experience it with them!  There were so many sweet moments and I could just feel Caroline's excitement and pride in this momentous occasion. Plus, what little lady doesn't love to get dolled up and celebrate with a fancy dress? ;-) Congrats Caroline! And thank you to the Welch family for including me in this celebration. It was

Wedding Photographer… To Be or Not To Be?

Ever since I became a professional photographer I have avoided weddings. Just plain avoided them. A few would-be wedding clients have inquired and I've just always simply said "nope! I don't do weddings."     I rationalized this aversion for all sorts of "good" reasons. I didn't like the idea of working with fussy brides or their picky moms. I didn't like the idea of being on my feet for 10 hours. But most of all, I HATED the idea of endless hours post-processing 3,000 pictures that (in my mind) would all look about the same. I mean, that white dress is gorgeous but if I have to see it in one more picture I'm going to gouge my eyes out. Honestly this might seem harsh but I don't even usually like looking THROUGH an entire image set of wedding photos. I can't imagine having to be the one to sort out and edit them all!     {side note - editing is one of my least favorite parts of my job. I hate being in front of the computer for

Event Photography | Vince & Eleanor’s 65th Anniversary

If these photos don't melt your heart then it's made of stone. This is the kind of event where my face gets sore from smiling so much!     I met this wonderful couple very briefly as their children situated them for their party to begin. So I didn't really know much about them. But what I learned about them through the course of the morning's event photography brought tears to my eyes.      First of all, you can tell a lot about a couple by the smiles of their friends and family.     I mean, it's downright contagious!  I feel like I'm missing out on a really good joke or something... but I think the punchline is something like "Vince and Eleanor, we're just so excited to be here celebrating this big day with you!"     The toasts were a fabulous mix of stories and praise of this wonderful couple. Tales of a fiery redhead getting herself set up on an awkward first
